Thought Notebook.jpg

Nature of Occurrences

A biannual Thought Notebook journal, published by Thought Collection Publishing, based out of Chicago, Illinois.

I am elated to have four of my works published in the December 2014 issue. All four works were inspired by notions and experiences of healing.

The piece that was chosen for the cover was made to honor the life of my dear friend who fought and triumphed over her battle with cancer. Such a special way to honor her very inspirational story. (We love you, Belle.)

This issue is available in both print and digital, and 10% of all sales will be donated to Save the Souls, an organization which is dedicated to improving the lives and future of women and children who live in impoverished areas in India.

The Subject is War

Location: Wiseman Gallery, 3345 Redwood Highway, Grants Pass, OR 97527
Exhibition Date: Wednesday, November 5, 2014 - Wednesday, December 10, 2014
Exhibition Hours: Monday - Thursday,8am - 7pm; Friday 8am - 5pm

Three of my pieces have been adjudicated into this show which addresses various interpretations of war.

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historically unparalleled "I Have a Dream" speech at the Civil Rights March in Washington D.C., fighting against slavery, racism, and hatred with words of peace and a message of hope and possibility. The following October, Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I stood before the United Nations General Assembly in New York and made this address, which would inspired Bob Marley to write his song "War".

"There is no single magic formula, no one simple step, no words, whether written into the Organization's Charter or into a treaty between states, which can automatically guarantee to us what we seek. Peace is not an 'is', it is a 'becoming.' "   - Haile Selassie I

"And we know we shall win as we are confident in the victory of good over evil" - Bob Marley, War  (Read lyrics)

Un Seul Grain de Riz (A Single Grain of Rice)

Exhibition Hours: Monday - Saturday, 1:30 - 6:45pm
Opening Reception: December 19, 2014, 6pm

I am very pleased to announce that three pieces from my Beauty Marks series have been accepted in Paris!

"Out of discord comes the fairest harmony" - Heraclitus

The ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus understood the world to be a place where nothing remains fixed; everything is in flux and is constantly being transformed. One of the main aspects of his teaching is that opposition brings concord, this apparent contradiction is that both positive and negative realities are required in order for harmony to exist. Thus, Job 2:10 exclaims, "What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?"

This small format art competition brings together a group of international artists whose works illustrate this idea that in conflict there is harmony, a notion similar to that of the principle of equilibrium in the natural world.

A Day in the Life of Asian Pacific America

Capital Gallery, Suite 7065, P.O. Box 37012, Washington, DC 2001

With the project bringing in over 2,000 photo submissions, I am deeply honored to have my photo included in this small selection of works, The Arena, and participate in my first ever photo show. A great deal of gratitude to the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, and to Little Saigon for all the inspiration you have granted me (and for all the cafe xưa đá - Vietnamese iced coffee - you've provided to help these hands keep up with that inspiration) !

I have been invited to participate in a unique show whose artwork will be inspired by two hot sauces that were created in Los Angeles: Sriracha and Tapatio. In large American cities everywhere, both Sriracha and Tapatio contend to rival Heinz Ketchup and French’s mustard, having become interwoven into the American cultural fabric and thus becoming a ubiquitous condiment in American cuisine. Housed in the oldest and last surviving structure of Los Angeles’ original Chinatown, this exhibition hopes to reflect the cultural, artistic, and culinary shifts currently in process in Los Angeles, and speaks on America’s shifting traditions.

View catalogue (available for purchase at the Chinese American Museum's front desk)
