As One Born Among You

As One Born Among You, in collaboration with Binh Danh and the ones who stand with us, 2022. Bird nest as gifted from the husband, found feathers, hand embroidery, scripture, Belle’s acrylic on stones collected from the Pacific Coast, and thread upon photography

This work honors the individuals who have stood with us, and with our fellow heirs whose lives have been disrupted by the injustices that threaten to encage us.

They gather to offer comfort and support in times of distress, and in doing so, they willingly entangle themselves with the shared burden that they help carry for others. One cradles the home securely with gentle hands, while another examines the remnants left by the ones who have gone into hiding for fear of removal, and the ones who have been forcibly cast out.

They are bound by a lifeline that is a communal desire to help alleviate suffering, this lifeline that is lengthened by a steady compassion for those who seek refuge.

But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt…  – Leviticus 19:34
