Made of Clay
I once watched a fascinating video of an Indigenous Mexican potter. On a warm afternoon, the woman stepped out of her front door with clay pitcher in hand, and poured water into the earth right at her feet. She kneeled down and began kneading the dirt into clay which she then used to hand build the little bowls from which her family would soon be eating. I watched in awe as she gave in to its organic quality, and I, too, wanted to understand how the timing and flow of water, earth, fire, and air, all coalesced to create this rich form of ancient art.
