Third Eye

The Third Eye Series, 2011. Acrylic, collage, gouache, and hand embroidery on etching, 24x 18”

This series investigates my eternal search for the complex answers to the seemingly simple questions (or the simple answers to the seemingly complex questions) which life often presents such as “Why?” and “How?”.

I define this third eye not as an all-seeing eye (for who am I to be able to see all things, lest I be perfect), but rather the discernment and wisdom that I hope for— this light that allows us to perceive the things that our natural, physical eyes cannot. The hand embroidery in the work, soft and possibly unnoticed, describes that small, quiet voice within that guides us as we seek truth.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. - Matthew 7:7-8
