Time and Time Again: A Retrospective Show of Works by Trinh Mai

UC Irvine's Vietnamese American Oral History Project

The Vietnamese American Oral History Project at the University of California, Irvine is pleased to formally launch its website and celebrate the efforts of volunteers, narrators, students and community supporters at a community reception. And I as one of the interviewees, I am honored to be the featured artist for this opening reception.

Second Annual Áo Dài Festival

I have been invited to curate Trùng Dương: Convergence of Rivers, the visual art exhibit at this year's Áo Dài Festival, hosted by the Friends of Hue Foundation and the Green Rice Foundation. All festival proceeds benefit the Friends of Hue Foundation Children's Shelter in Hue, Vietnam. Ao Dai designers include Duc Hung, Si Hoang, Minh Hanh, and Debbie Nghiem.
Exhibiting artists include Thai Bui, Trinh Mai, Cao Ba Minh, Ann Phong, and Trinh Ponce, with poets Anhvu Buchanan, and Truong Tran. Learn more about this year's artists.

I will be participating in Bảy Cửa | Seven Doors, a collective show that invites the community into the seven worlds of seven Vietnamese American artists. Drawing from the perspective of the Vietnamese diaspora, these works channel the transition from here to there and from past to present, paying homage to the journey upon which they have traveled as one of the whole, and as a people.
Artwork by Thomas Chu, Dao Hai Trieu, Jenny Do, Le Thi Que Huong, Trinh Mai, Nguyen Tri Minh Quang, and Truong Thi Thinh.

Third San Francisco Vietnamese American Poetry and Art Festival
Presented by the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center, the Diasporic Vietnamese Artists Network (DVAN) and co-sponsored by the Cesar E. Chavez Institute and the Department of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University.

I’ll be showing with a group of 12 Vietnamese-American creatives for this exciting festival, including spoken word artists Bao Phi, Fong Tran, and Sahra Vang Nguyen, poet Nguyen Do with Paul Hoover, and prose writers Andrew Pham and Aimee Phan. Also, performances by Cai Luong and artist Quang Chanh.
Art exhibition includes works by Binh Danh, Christine Nguyen, Truong Tran, Trinh Mai, and Khoi Nguyen.

Red Wheelbarrow Literary Magazine

I am very happy to be having two of my works published, One Stone at a Time and With Childlike Faith, on the front and back covers for Red Wheelbarrows' National Edition, Volume 12. Red Wheelbarrow is a publication of De Anza College, the alma mater several of my family members.
Red Wheelbarrow was born with the original name, Bottomfish, which referred to the overlooked writing that had (metaphorically) fallen to the bottom of the sea. The magazine was founded in 1976, just one year after my family arrived on American shores, after having been lost at sea.
